The board
Home is where you land when you open Tana. It is a board of cards rather than a single list. The set of cards and their layout are fixed.
Home shows your own calendar events and organization-level events synced by other members, so a meeting a colleague scheduled on a shared calendar appears alongside your own.
The cards
- Greeting: The time-of-day greeting, which flips with the hour, and a short summary of the day.
- Up next: The meeting you are heading into, with one action on it. For a Tana meeting that is Join. For an external one it is Capture, named for the provider Tana recognizes, or Capture anyway when a colleague is already capturing the same meeting. Where capture cannot run, on the web and on Linux, the button carries the provider's own name and opens the meeting there instead, and a meeting with nothing to enter falls back to Open. When meetings clash, every one of them stays reachable rather than the card picking a winner.
- Earlier today: Meetings that already finished today.
- Meeting outcomes: What came out of recent meetings, and the follow-ups worth picking up. See Outcomes.
- Tasks: Your tasks, with filters. See Tasks.
- Pinned today: Items pinned to today. Drop one on the card to pin it. A row of create buttons at the top of the card starts a doc, canvas, or meeting.
- Recents: Documents you have been in lately, ranked by how recently and how often you open them. It shows a fixed set in two groups, Jump back in and Recently edited by you, with Search in the card heading. A meeting you opened can appear under Jump back in, which holds what this device opened; Recently edited by you leaves meetings out.
Meeting tiles across Home and the other boards show the title, then the AI-written tagline, with the avatar stack below and a strip of up to three teaser cards mixing pinned items, accepted outcomes, and pending proposals, each with a type indicator and a cover thumbnail where it has one. On an external meeting the provider logo carries a frown icon, reading "This meeting is not in Tana. Move it?", on uncaptured events that still have a real provider link. Clicking it runs Host meeting in Tana.
Starting a meeting or a capture
Two buttons on Home cover both:
- Meet starts a meeting now, with Schedule a meeting… behind it for one at a set time. Both open the same meeting card, where you add people and confirm. See Creating a meeting.
- Capture starts a system-audio capture for a meeting that is not on your calendar. On the web, or where system-audio capture is not available, it links to the desktop download instead.
For anything else, use the create menu (the pencil icon) in the sidebar. See Interface.
Work
Work is the second board, for what you owe people rather than what happened: ongoing chats, your tasks, your agents, MCP chats, and your Notifications. The sidebar's Work row carries the unread notification count, because the Notifications card lives here. See Work for what shows up in it.
Each space opens on a board of the same kind. See The space home.
Pinning items to dates
Any document, task, or other item can be pinned to a date. It then appears on that date, on Home's Pinned today card when the date is today, and on the Calendar day.
Meetings are not pinned this way, because they appear on their scheduled date automatically.
To pin an item, use Pin to Date from any document's context menu, by right-clicking the item or opening its toolbar menu. To unpin, right-click a pinned item and choose Unpin.
Pinning to a date is for work that belongs to a day. For the items you want permanently within reach, use Pin to sidebar instead, which files them into your own pinned area of the sidebar.
Pinned dates are shared, so everyone in the organization sees the same pins on a date.
Daily brief
A daily-brief agent sends you one Slack direct message each morning: the meetings on your day, what happened since yesterday, preparation worth doing, and tasks or follow-ups you may have dropped. It covers the meetings you attend, not everything your account can see.
Set it up from the card headed Get a daily brief in Slack every morning and press Set up. That card lives on the day view at home.tana.inc/calendar, so open that address directly to reach it. Dismissing the card hides it on every device.
Setup needs your personal Slack account connected, from Settings, Integrations, Slack, or from the card itself. Link Slack account, in the Connected menu, is an optional second step. It lets Tana ask Slack who you are instead of matching addresses, so it is needed when your Slack email differs from the one you sign in with.
The agent is yours once it exists. Open it to change the prompt, its tools, or the schedule, and Tana leaves it alone afterwards. It can message only you. See Agents for changing when it runs.
No calendar connected
With no synced calendar, the Up next card carries a prompt to connect one. Connect Google Calendar or Outlook and your events appear automatically; see Integrations for setup. Dismissing the prompt removes it from Home.
