GPT-5 models now available in Tana

The next generation of AI is here. Tana now supports GPT-5, GPT-5 Mini, and GPT-5 Nano — bringing faster, more accurate, and more structured AI assistance directly into your knowledge workflows. Whether you're transcribing meetings, working on ideas, or building complex automations, these new models make it easier to think, act, and stay in flow. Tana lets you use 20 models from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google, directly where your notes live.

We’re excited to bring the full GPT‑5 family to Tana AI tools: GPT‑5, GPT‑5 Mini, and GPT‑5 Nano.

These new models power up your workspace with:

    • 💬 Better conversations
GPT‑5 is more reliable, less prone to hallucinations, and comes with “safe completions” that explain gently when a task can’t be completed.
    • Performance that fits your flow
Choose GPT‑5 for high-stakes thinking, Mini for agile drafting, or Nano for speed and scale.

“GPT‑5 just works. It rarely screws up and generally feels competent.”

What are the differences between the new GPT-5 models?

Tana now gives you access to three GPT-5 models, each optimized for different needs:

    • GPT-5
The most powerful and context-aware model in the lineup. Ideal for complex tasks like multi-step reasoning, transforming raw notes into structured knowledge, and drafting polished long-form content. GPT-5 is deeply integrated with your structured data in Tana, meaning it doesn’t just respond, it understands how your work is connected.
    • GPT-5 Mini
A balanced model for everyday AI tasks. It's fast, affordable, and capable of summarizing meetings, rephrasing content, or generating checklists without sacrificing coherence or accuracy. Perfect for daily productivity use.
    • GPT-5 Nano
Lightweight and ultra-fast. Use it for quick queries, simple formatting, or templated responses. It’s great when you want instant results inside a note, without waiting.

The models have different prices, and we recommend starting out with Mini or Nano, reserving use of GPT-5 for tasks that require reasoning or complex work. Be aware of the amount of references you include as context, to avoid triggering excessive charges. View prices for the models.

How can I use GPT-5 in Tana?

Tana offers a toolbox to help you use AI in your workflows and systems to make your knowledge work for you.

    Chat with your notes directly

Tana AI chat is a fast way to use different AI models inside Tana to help you brainstorm, summarize, rewrite, or query your content in natural language.

Press space below any node to start an AI chat with that note as context. Type @ and pull in other nodes to include them in the context. Tana lets you select which model to use amongst 20 models from OpenAI/ChatGPT, Anthropic/Claude and Google/Gemini.

Instead of switching tools or tabs, you can interact with your notes using AI right where your knowledge lives. It speeds up thinking, helps distill complexity, and turns scattered notes into clear next steps.

Collaborate with custom AI chat agents

Tana lets you build AI chat agents tailored to certain use cases or trained on specific content, to give you more relevant results in AI chat. Agents in Tana are built on AI command nodes, but can also be explored by downloading a Tana Template.

An example of an agent that can be built in Tana would be a "User research interview agent" that is trained on best practices for how to process interviews, and will analyze a transcript from a user interview and extract suggested action items for the product team. Try this with the User research interview template.

A lot of work is going on to take agents in Tana to the next step - stay tuned!

Command nodes: Your personal automation buttons

Think of command nodes as smart shortcuts that handle your routine work for you. Instead of doing the same steps over and over, you create a custom button that does it all automatically with one click.

    Here's what makes them powerful:

Command nodes can chain together multiple actions in sequence. For example, you could create a "Process Meeting Notes" button that automatically organizes your notes, extracts action items, assigns them to team members, and adds everything to your project tracker - all in seconds.

You can trigger these automations in three ways: through Tana's command line, as clickable buttons on your notes, or automatically when certain conditions are met (like when you add a specific tag).

    Real-world examples:

    • A "Weekly Review" button that gathers all your completed tasks, upcoming deadlines, and creates a summary report
    • A "New Project Setup" button that creates all the folders, templates, and tracking systems you need
    • A "Voice Memo Processor" that transcribes recordings, identifies tasks, and files everything in the right places

The magic is that once you build these automations, anyone on your team can use them - turning your best practices into one-click workflows that save hours of repetitive work.

Command nodes can be built with different models, and we'd love to see what you can build with GPT-5! Read more about command nodes

What's unique about AI in Tana?

Tana isn’t just a canvas for notes - it’s a system that helps you take action and stay on top of everything. While most apps bolt AI on top of your content, Tana is different. It’s built on a knowledge graph, so AI knows what your notes mean, how they’re connected, and you can build custom AI commands to tailor your workflows. That means smarter outputs with less effort from you.

Tana offers access to more than 20 AI models from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google, and allows your to include your notes as context with a simple @ mention - no need for export and copy-paste!

These new GPT-5 models can be wired into your workflows, not bolted on. That means:

    • Collaborate with AI on your notes. AI chat agents in Tana can review or build on your note to create derived works or new ideas. In Tana you can use AI directly on your existing notes, and save AI responses into your structure - without need to copy things back and forth.
    • Semantic Intelligence that compounds. AI in Tana understands your graph, what information means, and structures outputs accordingly. You can add supertags directly in AI responses, to build on it in the future.
    • Voice memos become knowledge. Turn voice notes and meeting recordings into structured notes, with decisions, tasks, and insights extracted automatically.

With GPT-5, you can move faster whether you're drafting a doc, processing meeting notes, or turning scattered thoughts into a plan. It’s now easier to:

    • Use AI commands on structured content.
    • Create tasks, ideas, and dashboards automatically from AI outputs.
    • Ask questions of your own data, and get accurate, structured answers.

No need to pre-define structure. Just start typing, and let GPT-5 + Tana’s Supertags do the rest.
