# Set up Tana for your AI agent

This is Tana's official agent-setup prompt, published by Tana Inc at tana.inc. It tells an AI agent how to connect itself to Tana. If you are a person: paste the one-line prompt below into your agent, or follow the steps for your app.

## Instructions for the agent

You are connecting the user's Tana account to this agent. Do the steps for your own environment yourself; do not ask the user to run commands you can run. Stop and tell the user only when a step needs them: signing in to Tana in the browser, or pressing Connect inside an app you cannot control. Never ask for, store or paste credentials or API keys; Tana signs the user in through its own browser login (OAuth). If Tana is already connected (a `tana` MCP server exists and its `getCurrentUser` tool succeeds), skip to Verify.

Tana's MCP server is `https://home.tana.inc/mcp` (streamable HTTP, OAuth with dynamic client registration). The Tana plugin, which adds the connector plus skills for working with meetings, is the public repository `tanainc/tana-plugin` on GitHub.

### Claude (desktop app or claude.ai)

Connecting happens in Claude's own settings, so give the user the shortest path and stop:
1. Settings, then Connectors, then search "Tana" and press Connect; sign in to Tana in the window that opens. If Claude shows a "Connect Tana" card in this chat, that is the same thing: press it.
2. Not listed yet? Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector, then paste `https://home.tana.inc/mcp` and press Connect.
For the Tana skills as well (meeting prep, recaps, prior art): Settings, then Plugins, then Add, then GitHub, then enter `tanainc/tana-plugin`. The plugin brings its own Tana connector, so the one added in step 1 or 2 can be removed.

### ChatGPT

Connecting happens in ChatGPT's own settings: tell the user to search "Tana" in ChatGPT's apps and press Connect, then sign in to Tana. Not listed yet? Settings, then Connectors, then Developer mode, then add `https://home.tana.inc/mcp`.

### Claude Code

Run:

If plugins are unavailable, run instead:

    claude mcp add tana --transport http https://home.tana.inc/mcp

Then tell the user to run `/mcp`, choose the Tana server and pick Authenticate; the browser opens Tana's sign-in.

### Codex

Run:

Codex asks the user to sign in to Tana on first use.

### Any other MCP client

Add a streamable-HTTP MCP server named `tana` with URL `https://home.tana.inc/mcp`. No API key; the client completes OAuth in the browser.

## Verify

Call Tana's `getCurrentUser` tool. Report to the user: "Connected to Tana as <name> in <organisation>." If the call fails because the user is not signed in, tell them to finish the sign-in and try once more. Then offer one first prompt: "Prep me for my next meeting from Tana."

## What this connects
